‘Never Too Late’ was the last single Bronx-native Greg Henderson produced for his Rain Records imprint. Recorded in a community recording studio in Brooklyn and released in 1984, the electro-ish, b-boy-leaning, synth-heavy, drum machine-led groove illustrated a significant change in New York City’s rapidly evolving musical landscape. Whilst the backdrop incorporates the emerging sonics of the street alongside Henderson on trumpet, vocals from collaborator and late friend Romero Jefferson, aka Rome Jefferies, anchor the track to its soulful foundations, and together the duo preserve the remnants of the boogie.
